Curtin University 2015 IPRS/ 2015 CSIRS





The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme was established to maintain and develop international research linkages and specifically aims to:

  • attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the Australian higher education sector; and
  • support Australia's research effort.

In addition to IPRS, Curtin has a number of Strategic International Research Scholarships (CSIRS) available for commencement in 2015. Eligible students who arenot successful in the 2015 IPRS round but whose area of research aligns with one of Curtin's Strategic Areas listed below, will automatically be assessed for Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS).

Value
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) provides:
  • course tuition fee for two years for a Masters by Research and three years for a Doctoral degree; and
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the recipient and their dependants for the duration of the award.

In addition, all successful applicants will receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) valued at $25,392 (2014 value) for living allowance. This tax-free stipend is indexed annually.
Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS) provides:
  • course tuition fee for three years for a Doctoral degree; and
  • basic single overseas health cover (OSHC) for the recipient; and
  • a stipend equivalent to that of the APA valued at $25,392 (2014 value) per annum tax free for the duration of your study.

Eligible courses
Candidates from any field of endeavour are welcome to apply for IPRS.  
Strategic Research Areas for CSIRS (Applicants must indicate which area/s their proposed research will aligned with in the Research Proposal).

Your area of proposed research must aligned with one of the Strategic Research Areas listed below to be eligible for CSIRS: 
  • Creative, Cultural and Critical Inquiry: Curtin Humanities is a world - leader in the fields of creative, cultural and critical inquiry, specialising in cultural and media studies, and creative arts and industries;
  • Digital Technologies in Built Environment: Curtin Humanities is at the forefront of research in the use of digital technologies in the built environment.  Its Building Information Management (BIM) lab and Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch (HIVE) host researchers in construction and project management, design and planning;
  • Education and Applied Linguistics: Curtin's School of Education undertakes research in education (curriculum, pedagogy and specialist studies in education), applied linguistics and language learning;
  • Sustainability and Sustainable Development: Curtin Humanities is one of the most advanced centres for sustainability research in the world, through the Curtin Sustainability Policy Institute, the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre, and the Departments of Urban and Regional Planning and Architecture/Interior Architecture.
  • Metabolic Health (including Physical Activity and Nutrition);
  • Biosciences (including Cell Biology, Cancer and Chronic diseases);
  • Neurosciences (including Psychology and Cognitive Sciences);
  • Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences;
  • Performance management: this area focuses on exploring organisational performance at an organizational level thus addressing either strategic performance and or corporate governance
  • Applied law, tax and regulation:  as part of building a nascent law school, this area aims to target studies into the practice of law (through for example, construction contract management, policy making/regulation)
  • Tourism particularly either sustainability or health:  research would seek to either concentrate on health tourism addressing economic, marketing, supply and/or policy issues potentially facilitating a joint Health Sciences/CBS research focus or the sustainability of tourism capitalising on impact, policy, management etc.
  • Big data/decision analysis: this area concentrates on research seeking to help decision makers make tough decisions through either managing complexity and/or managing large data sets through methods such as data visualisation, data mining etc.
  • Geosciences: Fundamental and applied planetary science; global systems, resources and environmental change;
  • Chemical Sciences: Application of analytical, spectroscopic and computational methods in materials, water and medicinal chemistry research;
  • Physics and Astronomy: Research focusing on Radioastronomy, theoretical physics, material and environmental physics;
  • Chemical/Mechanical Engineering: Fundamental and applied research relating to materials, manufacturing, energy and resource processing.

Eligibility criteria
IPRS - Current and Future Students:
  • This award is open to citizens of an overseas country (excluding New Zealand);
  • Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and research capacity to suitably qualified overseas graduates eligible to commence a higher degree by research in 2015; 
  • Applicants must have gained admission to the chosen courses for sem 1, 2015;
  • Applicants must meet English language requirements for the chosen course of study by 5th Sep 2014;
  • Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the IPRS;
  • This scholarship is available to future students and current students who meet the following guidelines:
  1. Commenced your higher degree by research program in the previous year (after 31 August) but, due to the timing of your application and subsequent enrolment you were unable to apply for and IPRS in that year; or
  2. Commenced your higher degree by research program but withdrew from that program within six months of commencement;
CSIRS - Future Students only
  • This award is open to citizens of an overseas country (excluding New Zealand);
  • Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit, alignment with strategic research areas, and research capacity, to suitably qualified overseas graduates eligible to commence a higher degree by research in 2015; 
  • Applicants must have gained admission to the chosen courses for sem 1, 2015;
  • Applicants must meet English language requirements for the chosen course of study by 5th Sep 2014;
  • This scholarship is available to new commencing PhD students only.
