For the academic year beginning 1st October 2014, the Open University, UK is inviting applications for a number of full-time funded PhD studentships.

The deadline for applications is midday on Tuesday 11th March 2014.

In order to be considered for a full-time funded studentship your application must be based on one of the advertised projects and you should apply through the online Research Degrees Prospectus.  The studentships cover tuition fees, research training support grant and a starting stipend of circa £14,000 per year.

All applicants should have a minimum of 2:1 at bachelors degree level in a related subject and have substantial experience or qualifications in advanced research methods -  Ideally this would be an MRes (Masters of Research) qualification.  Where candidates do not have sufficient research methods training they may be offered a place on the one-year full time Masters in Research Methods course.

Your application should comprise a research proposal of no more than 1000 words and a covering letter outlining your suitability for your chosen project. We must also receive a fully completed application form, copies of previous degree certificates and transcripts, and SELTS test results (if applicable), before we can consider your application.

Applicants who speak  English as a foreign language and are applying for a Tier 4 visa must have achieved SELTS (Secure English Language Test) from a UK Border Agency-approved provider at level B2 or above in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), in all four elements (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Interviews will form part of the selection process and will be held in May 2014 in person (or via web conference if required). PhD applicants are expected to give a 15 minute PowerPoint presentation about their proposal, followed by a question and answer session.
