University of Hertfordshire Chancellor’s International Scholarships

The University of Hertfordshire in UK is offering Chancellor’s International Scholarships to support first time undergraduate and postgraduate students at the university.

These achievement-based Scholarships are awarded at registration as a tuition fee reduction from the first year of study for self-funding international students who join the University for the first time on either an undergraduate or postgraduate course.

In recognition of the importance of our international community the university awards 60 Chancellor's International Scholarships each year. These are awarded on a competitive basis to candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and the ability to make a significant ongoing contribution to the University community.

The Scholarships are designed ensure that the University continues to attract the most talented students from across the world.

Award criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following academic achievement:

Undergraduate
Successful candidates will be required to achieve very good results in the equivalent of UK A Levels.

The marking scales used to assess performance in school-level qualifications vary significantly between type of qualification, country and individual subject areas.

As a result, when deciding whether a candidate's grades represent outstanding academic performance, the University's experience and knowledge of the relevant educational system, qualification and marking scheme will be taken into consideration.

Postgraduate
Successful candidates will be required to achieve the equivalent of a very good UK bachelor degree. Individual module/subject grades (including resits) will be considered.

Percentage marking systems: the marking scale used in percentage-based grading systems varies widely between countries, subjects and institutions.

As a result, when deciding whether a candidate's grades represent outstanding academic performance, the University's experience and knowledge of the country's educational system, of the student's subject area and of the marking systems used by individual institutions will be taken into consideration.

Where appropriate, the overall ranking of the candidate within their cohort will also be taken into account.

English language
Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate a good level of English Language proficiency.

Personal statement
The information provided by the candidate in their personal statement will be considered alongside the evidence of their academic potential, as assessed through the candidate's formal qualifications. The personal statement (of no more than 500 words) allows the candidate to demonstrate:
  • Other achievements or involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • Relevant work experience
  • The potential to benefit from the experience of studying at the University of Hertfordshire and to make a significant ongoing contribution to the University community.

Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria
The scholarship is available for all new full-time students who have been assessed as overseas for fee purposes, who are self-funded and who have been issued an offer to study at the University of Hertfordshire.

The scholarship is only available for undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses, not for PhDs or research. It is available for year 1 of undergraduate studies only, not in subsequent years.

Students who are studying at our partner college Hertfordshire International College (HIC) are eligible to apply for the Scholarship following completion of their studies with HIC when they join the University.

If the education system in your home country does not allow direct entry to undergraduate study in the UK and you are therefore required to complete the University of Herfordshire International Foundation Programme you are still eligible to apply for the Scholarship.
Students who are studying on a University of Hertfordshire degree at an overseas partner are eligible to apply for the Scholarship at the point of transfer to the University in the UK, during their first year of on-campus study only.

Students who are successfully awarded the Chancellor's International Scholarship are still eligible for the £500 tuition fee discount if they pay in full at registration.

Candidates will be required to meet all conditions of registration before the Scholarship is awarded.
