Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS)





Flinders University Research Scholarships are awarded to postgraduate students on the basis of academic merit and research potential. The scholarships enable suitably qualified applicants to proceed to a full-time Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research.


Benefits
The scholarships pay an indexed stipend of $25,395 pa tax-free (2014 full-time rate) and generous allowances and leave provisions. Australian or New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents will be provided with a Research Training Scheme place for a maximum of four years which provides an exemption from tuition fee costs. A limited number of fee waiver scholarships will be available for International students. International students who are not in receipt of a fee waiver scholarship will be required to pay the normal tuition fees.

Eligibility
Awards will normally only be available to those who: are Australian citizens; or New Zealand citizens; or have been granted permanent resident status; or are an international student who has completed an honours or equivalent qualification at Flinders University no more than three years prior to the application closing date; and have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours 1 or high 2A (or equivalent) undergraduate degree; and are enrolling as full-time students (part-time awards are available in certain circumstances); and will commence or are continuing a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research; and have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies.

In addition to satisfying the above requirements, applicants in the mid-year round must have completed their honours degree or equivalent qualification in semester one of the year of award commencement. Applicants who completed their honours or equivalent qualification prior to this will not be considered in the mid-year application round.

Tenure
Flinders University Research Scholarships are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the maximum period of tenure.
