Doctoral Research Fellowship, University of Oslo, Norway

A Doctoral research fellowship (post code 1017) in history is available at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History, University of Oslo. 
 
The fellowship will be part of the research project “Graphicacy and Authority in Early Europe: Graphic Signs of Power and Faith in the Early Middle Ages (c. 300-c.1000)”. The project aims to contribute towards a better understanding of non-figural graphic representational signs in early medieval Europe by placing them in the contexts of related written discourse, concurrent political culture, and wider socio-cultural milieu.
Applicants are invited to submit doctoral proposals which fall within the project’s theme.

Upon acceptance, the selected candidate is obliged to participate in a researcher educational program at the Faculty of Humanities (cf. regulations and supplementary provisions for the faculty’s researcher education) and to engage in the designated research activities on a 100 percent basis. The aim of the designated research activities is to complete a doctoral dissertation to be defended at a public disputation for the PhD degree.

The position is available for a period of three years.
Qualifications
  • An MA degree relevant for PhD studies in medieval history. The MA degree must be completed by the application deadline.

Personal Skills
  • In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description and on the academic and personal abilities on the part of the candidates to complete the dissertation within the given time frame.
  • The candidate is expected to have good cooperative skills, and to be able to collaborate across academic disciplines.

  • project description, including a detailed progress plan for the doctoral project (maximum 5 pages, see Guidelines for project descriptions)
  • CV including the list of publications (if any)
  • academic transcripts
  • names of three referees and their contact information
Educational certificates, master theses etc. are not to be submitted with the application, but applicants may be asked to submit such information or works later.

The short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview at the University of Oslo or we will arrange for an interview on Skype.
