This Research-only PhD is directed towards designing,
synthesising, and characterising new ionic conductors to be used as solid-state
electrolytes in next-generation batteries. New boron-based inorganic compounds
will be synthesised by wet-chemical approaches under inert gas conditions
(Schlenk techniques). i.e. MgB10H10 and ZnB12H12.
The materials will be characterised to determine their crystal structure,
material properties, and ion conductivity. The PhD will be conducted within the
Fuels and Energy Technology Institute (FETI) at Curtin University, which is
equipped with an array of world-class research equipment and facilities. You
will specialise in materials chemistry, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy,
and other characterisation techniques. A 6-month visit to an overseas
laboratory will be strongly encouraged during the PhD.
