Every year, IMD supports about half of the MBA class by granting them scholarships or loans. The total amount of scholarships available each year is around CHF500'000 and CHF 1.3 million for loans.
The maximum financial aid awarded per admitted candidate is CHF 65,000.
LOANS
The IMD MBA finance committee works with a Swiss bank to provide loans to candidates who demonstrate no alternative sources of funding. In order to apply you need to:
- Gain acceptance into the IMD MBA
- Confirm your intention to participate in the program by paying the advance deposit of CHF 15,000
- Complete the MBA Financial Aid Application Form and submit it to IMD
- Read and accept the Loans Conditions
The deadline to apply for loans is October 30 and November 15 for the September deadline applicants. We encourage admitted candidates to apply as soon as possible.
SCHOLARSHIPS
IMD's scholarship program offers several types of scholarship according to demographic, geographic or work related criteria. Applicants may apply to several scholarships simultaneously but only one scholarship can be awarded. In order to apply you need to:
- Gain acceptance into the IMD MBA
- Confirm your intention to participate in the program by paying the advance deposit of CHF 15,000
- Use the IMD MBA Scholarship Template to write your essays
- Complete the MBA Financial Aid Application Form (when requested) and submit your essays to mbafinance@imd.org
All essays should reflect your personal point of view expressed in your own words, if necessary supported by proper citation.
IMD reserves the right not to award a scholarship if the criteria are not met to the satisfaction of the jury/sponsors.

MBA Class Scholarship for Emerging Markets - CHF 200'000 (to be split between the winners of the scholarship)
IMD's MBA program is offering a new and considerable scholarship program to enable young leaders from emerging markets to earn the IMD MBA degree. Scholarships are granted subject to acceptance to the program, demonstrated financial need and nomination by the scholarship selection committee.
- Demonstrated financial need; complete our Financial Aid Application
- For citizens of developing countries (except BRIC countries)
- Good academic results (GMAT)
- Strong reference letters
- Steady career progression
Staton Scholarship (x 1) US$ 50,000
For applicants from South America (with the exception of Brazil), on condition that the candidate returns to South America for at least three years after graduation.

IMD MBA Alumni Scholarships (x 5) CHF 30,000
One scholarship is awarded to a citizen, but not necessarily current resident, of each region: Asia, Africa/Middle East, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Western Europe/North America/Oceania

Identify one issue in your region / country which you consider a priority to address. Why would you choose this issue? How would you, as a business leader, personally address it and ensure your action has a sustainable impact?
Essays should be personal and visionary, and include a clear description of how the solution could be implemented in a sustained manner.
Van Oord Scholarship (x 1) CHF 30,000
For citizens of developing countries whose progress has been strongly influenced by its seaside location, struggle against the water, maritime tradition, river transportation system, etc. Preference for those with a technical background / experience related to marine engineering who wish to return to their countries after graduation.
