National University of Singapore (NUS) Research Fellowships





All positions are intended for outstanding active researchers from around the world, to work on an important piece of Asia-related research in the social sciences and humanities.

Applicants should only apply for ONE of the five types of positions of job opportunities (i.e. Senior Research Fellow, Research Fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow, Visiting Senior Research Fellow or Visiting Senior Research Fellow Sabbatical). Apart from the quality of research, positions will be awarded on the basis of the relationship of the research topic to ARI’s specific cluster of research as listed in Research Clusters and Their Focus (click here).

Applicants need to indicate the particular Research Cluster to which they are applying. In cases where there may be overlapping research interest, they may list one primary and one secondary cluster only, i.e. not more than two

During their term at ARI, recipients are expected to submit a working paper (not more than 10,000 words) to the ARI Working Paper Series. Candidates are also required to deliver research seminar(s) to the staff and to acknowledge ARI’s contribution for research in their publications.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Interested applicants are invited to email their applications, consisting of:
1. A completed application form (please click here to download the application form OR right-click & select Save Target As). Please ensure that the application form submitted is in MS Word or equivalent editable formats only.
2. Curriculum Vitae;
3. Synopsis of the proposed research project (maximum of 8-10 single-lined pages);
4. At least one short sample of published work, preferably in English.
5. It is primarily your responsibility to ensure that a minimum of two letters of reference are sent to us in confidence via email reporting on the applicant’s academic standing and on the applicant’s research project by 15 August 2014.
6. Reference letters must clearly state your name, position and cluster applied for.
7. Closing date for applications is 15 August 2014. You may wish to check with your referees that they have submitted their references before the closing date.


SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

ELIGIBILITY
1. Interested applicants must have a PhD from a reputable university and with publication record preferably in English Language.
2. Only candidates with more than 5 years of research experience after their PhD may apply for the Senior Research Fellowship position.





TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
1. The appointment will be tenable for a period of two years at the first instance, with the possibility of another term of two years based upon evaluation and  funding availability (i.e. up to a total of four years).
2. Applications are invited for commencement in:
Jun/Jul 2015
- or Dec 2015/Jan 2016
3. The Senior Research Fellowship comes with a competitive remuneration of at least S$6000 per month, from which they will pay for university subsidized  housing.
4. The Research Fellowship is on competitive remuneration from S$5000 per month with an additional S$500 per month housing allowance to make their own private  housing arrangement.
5. All salary and benefit-in-kind are subjected to taxation in accordance with local tax laws.
6. Travel assistance will be provided.
7. There is support for research fieldwork and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval).
8. Research staff at ARI should participate actively in research activities including attendance at seminars, conferences and ARI social events.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
ELIGIBILITY
1. Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements of securing a PhD from a reputable university.
2. If you are still a PhD candidate at the point of application, you may also apply provided that you are confirmed for graduation by your commencement date at ARI. An official letter from the Registrar Office of your university will be required to confirm the award of your PhD degree.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
1. Contract is tenable for a period of one year in the first instance with a possibility of another term of one year based upon evaluation and funding availability (ie, up  to a total of a two-year term).
2. Applications are invited for commencement in:
 - Jun/Jul 2015
 - or Dec 2015/Jan 2016.
3. An all-inclusive, fixed monthly salary of S$5000, a monthly housing allowance of S$500 and a one-off travel subsidy of S$2000 will be provided (the latter two are applicable to non-Singaporeans only). These will be subjected to taxation in  accordance with local tax laws.
4. Please note that University Housing will not be provided and appointees have to make their own private arrangement.
5. There is support for research fieldwork and conference attendance (on application  and subject to approval).
6. Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements of the PhD within the last 2 years.
7. Research staff at ARI should participate actively in research activities including attendance at seminars, conferences and ARI social events.

VISITING SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
VISITING SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (SABBATICAL)

ELIGIBILITY
1. Visiting Senior Fellow appointments at ARI are intended to enable the sharing of expertise to harness world-class research capability by collaborating with other international experts in the field. Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged.
2. Candidates must have extensive research experience after their PhD and a strong publication record in the field.
3. Both positions are for a 3-month term.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
1. Applications for Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Visiting Senior Research Fellowships (Sabbatical) are invited for commencement in:
 - Apr 2015
 - or Jul 2015
 - or Oct 2015
2. The Visiting Senior Research Fellowship will be provided with a monthly honorarium of S$5000, from which they will pay for university subsidized housing. These will be subjected to taxation in accordance with local tax laws.
3. The Visiting Senior Research Fellowship (Sabbatical) is intended mainly for researchers who are in active employment of their home institution. Therefore  they are expected to be self-funded. They will not receive any honorarium but will be provided with complimentary housing by ARI. However, this benefit-in-kind  will still be subjected to taxation in accordance with local tax laws.
4. For this 3-month appointment, medical benefits and travel assistance will be provided.
5. Visiting staff at ARI should participate actively in research activities including attendance at seminars, conferences and ARI social events.
6. Visiting staff will be provided with access to the libraries at NUS and as far as possible working space at ARI.
